FAQ
Answers to common questions about the demo, full account access, and how Color Scope works.
Getting started
What is Color Scope?
Color Scope is a browser-based color analysis tool by LyraDisplay. It provides vectorscope, luma and RGB waveforms, RGB histogram, and selection sampling — built for video colorists, cinematographers, and broadcast engineers.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Color Scope runs entirely in your web browser. Open the demo and start analyzing — no download or plugin required.
Can I try it before paying?
Yes. The free demo lets you explore Color Scope at no cost with a limited feature set. It may include ads. A paid account gives you full access with no ads.
What browsers and devices are supported?
Current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge on desktop, tablet, and phone. Color Scope uses HTML5 Canvas 2D and adapts layout to your screen — wide displays show every panel side by side; phones and vertical monitors use a stacked, scrollable layout. Screen capture and camera sources require WebRTC support (varies by browser and OS).
Can I use it as a quick vectorscope on the go?
Yes. Many users open Color Scope on a phone or laptop for a fast read — load a white-balanced still to check hue and exposure, or point a camera at a monitor for a live vectorscope on set. It is a browser companion, not a substitute for calibrated hardware, but handy when you need scopes without a rack monitor.
Pricing & accounts
How much does full access cost?
Full access is a one-time payment of $49 to create your account. There is no monthly subscription. See Pricing for the full comparison.
What is the difference between demo and full access?
The demo is free with limited features and may include ads. A paid account unlocks every scope panel, control, and source option, with no ads and no recurring fees.
How do I purchase full access?
Account signup is coming soon. Contact us for early access or to be notified when checkout launches.
Are updates included?
Yes. Minor and patch updates within the current major version are included with your one-time purchase. Major version upgrades may be offered separately when a new generation ships.
Privacy & workflow
Is my footage uploaded to your servers?
No. Color Scope processes all media locally in your browser. Images, video, screen captures, and camera feeds never leave your device.
Can I use it for live production?
Yes. Screen capture and camera inputs support live monitoring — useful for checking a program feed, grading session, or on-set reference display. Adjust capture FPS to balance responsiveness and CPU usage.
How does Color Scope compare to hardware scopes?
Hardware waveform monitors and vectorscopes remain the gold standard for calibrated reference monitoring. Color Scope is a flexible, browser-based companion — ideal for quick checks, remote sessions, education, and workflows where a dedicated scope box is not available.
What file formats can I load?
Any image or video format your browser can decode natively — typically JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF for images and MP4, WebM, and similar for video. Codec support depends on your browser and operating system.
